Approximately 1 in 8 children in the United States will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age of 25[1]. When confronted with loss, children and adults alike can struggle to come to terms.
To help with the grieving process, The WARM Place opened its doors in 1989 to provide year-round grief support services to children ages 3 ½ to 18 and their families, as well as to young adults ages 19 to 25, who have lost a loved one. Since its inception, the Fort Worth-based nonprofit has served more than 38,000 children and their families through peer support grief groups at no cost to beneficiaries.
Jackson Walker partner Joseph P. Regan first became involved with The WARM Place following the death of his brother in 2005. Having lost his father at the age of 9, Joe was able to see how deeply his brother’s death had affected his young niece and nephew. Driven to help other grieving children, he joined as a facilitator.
In an interview with 360 West Magazine, Joe noted: “It became very personal, but helped me become more in tune with the children in my group.”
Since then, Joe has increased his involvement to serve on the Board of Directors, and in 2018, he was named Board President.
As The WARM Place celebrates 30 years of providing grief support services to children and their families, Jackson Walker proudly joined Joe in supporting A Cool Night by Candlelight, an annual event that raises money and awareness. This year’s signature event took place on the evening of Monday, October 5, 2019, at River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth.
