Victoria Argeroplos, Beau Butler, and Maha Ghyas Present “Real Estate Bankruptcy” at UT Law Mortgage Lending Institute

Jackson Walker attorneys Victoria Argeroplos, Beau Butler, and Maha Ghyas presented at The University of Texas School of Law’s 58th Annual William W. Gibson, Jr. Mortgage Lending Institute on September 12-13, 2024. Their presentation, “Real Estate Bankruptcy,” delved into Subchapter V, lender and lessor relations, 363 sales, third-party releases, and emerging trends impacting lenders in bankruptcy cases. They also provided a comprehensive analysis of recent U.S. Supreme Court and Fifth Circuit rulings.

The two-day conference offered in-depth insights into current industry trends, practical guidance on real estate lending, financing and title issues, and valuable resources for professionals in the field.

Meet the Speakers

Victoria Argeroplos represents clients in matters related to bankruptcy, restructuring, and recovery, and the resolution of related disputes. She has experience guiding secured and unsecured creditors through bankruptcy proceedings, as well as litigating against borrowers, guarantors, and commercial tenants in state courts. In recognition of her practice, Victoria has been named to The Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch list for Litigation – Bankruptcy and Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers “Texas Rising Star” list (2023-2024).

 

Beau Butler is an attorney in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring, & Recovery practice of Jackson Walker’s Austin office. Prior to Jackson Walker, Beau was a summer law clerk for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Tony M. Davis of the Western District of Texas and for the Financial Litigation and Charitable Trusts Division of the Texas Attorney General’s Office. In recognition of his practice, Beau has been named to The Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch list for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law.

 

Maha Ghyas is an attorney in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring, & Recovery practice group of Jackson Walker’s Houston office. Maha has experience with clients in real estate, healthcare, and retail industries. Maha has also litigated complex commercial cases. Before joining Jackson Walker, Maha served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Jennifer Walker Elrod (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit), the Honorable Alfred Bennett (Southern District of Texas), and the Honorable Frances Stacy (Southern District of Texas).
